GALILEE

In June 1898, an Evangelist known as Sin Killing Griffin, along with Reverend Nicholas and Reverend John Williams organized a church in a small house at 609 South Second Street just three blocks from the historic Mississippi River. For a more convenient place to worship, the church moved from its original location to 227 Plum Street.

A few months later there was a need to move to a larger place to worship. This building was located at 613 S. 6th Street. 
In 1900, Reverend E.G. Gosby was called to pastor the church. During his administration the church grew to 300 in membership making it necessary to move to another location, 710 S. 6th Street. 

Reverend Malachi Owens, D.D., a product of Arkansas Baptist Church School, came to pastor Galilee Baptist Church in February 1912 from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. 

Galilee moved to their present location at 4300 Delmar on April 16, 1947. 

In April 1952 Rev. Owens departed this life and the Rev. Isaac Charles Peay, Sr. was called to the Galilee Baptist Church, Wednesday night after the third Sunday in December 1953. On the first Sunday in January 1954, Rev. Dr. I.C. Peay, Sr. began his pastorate. Rev. Peay always looked toward the future. He saw the need for an educational building and a building at 4310 Delmar was acquired. In memory of Dr. I.C. Peay the educational building was named the I.C Peay Educational building. On August 11, 1991 Rev. I.C. Peay, Sr. retired due to illness. Rev. Peay continued to serve the church as Pastor Emeritus.

On Sunday, April 12, 1992 Rev Dr. Carlton R. Caldwell, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, brought "A New Attitude" to Galilee Baptist Church. Under his leadership many accomplishments have been done and many souls have come to Christ. The Galilee Community Development Corp., a 501 (c) 3 has been established as well for the furtherance of the gospel in the community and abroad.
